Football: Schalke's fans protest against Magath Kaufwut

It is the nature of things that distrust is articulated only rarely open. There were no expressions of discontent, as the controversial Schalke Additions Ali Karimi (32) and Angelos Charisteas (30) entered the training ground in Gelsenkirchen. It was only whispered behind closed doors. At the snack stand, which is at the edge of the training area and has frequently served in its history as a networking opportunity for dissatisfied followers, however, were back on the critics of the recent transfer activity by Felix Magath.

For beer and burger was reviled on a "old boys 'team' - but people wanted to television crews as record voice, refused the predominantly elderly gentlemen who pursue almost any Schalke training, polite but firm. Two kilometers away, in a two-story bungalow on the other side of the Schalke Arena, is preferred a more open floor.

"The fans are worried," said Arthur Saager. When fan representatives of FC Schalke who is also vice chairman of the federation is Schalke Fanclub are in the past few days received a number of complaints about the purchasing policy Magath, either by phone or in the form of e-mails. "If you look at the internet forums, is pushing for one of the impression that what has recently happened is, for many of the straw that breaks the camel's back," says Saager together the displeasure of the trailer.

Hardly anyone can understand in particular what Magath expects from the obligation of the modified contract without Charisteas and Karimi. Many trailer, Saager see behind Magath personnel decisions, "no system," they ask, "How can help us with this aging stars?" The alienation between Magath, who has since taking up his post in July brought 2009 40 players to Schalke and sold 34, has reached a new peak.

And the complaints about the man, who had begun to make up to 2013 German champion Schalke slip, now often from the offenses. "This trainer is running amok," said a fan forum. Another user expressed sarcastically that Magath is the concept "of concepts" well. A view which also seems to share more of the former Schalke.

As in the fan scene, however, also applies here: The criticism is usually expressed anonymously. One exception is Peter Neururer. "Just like the fans I do not know whether this transfer policy is now a work of art or a disaster," the former Schalke coach told "Sport1." He at least doubt, so Neururer that the high turnover of players good for the development of team could be.

An example that Magath's activism in the transfer market for the team was not always helpful, is demonstrated in the occupation of the left-back position. As ex-international Christian Pander was injured early season, and Luke Schmitz was not an ideal player for the left-back, Magath committed for a transfer fee of 2.3 million euros to the Spanish under-21 national team player Sergio Escudero Real Murcia.

After the 21-year-old in the League Cup but showed great tactical shortcomings, has brought even then Hans Sarpei of Bayer Leverkusen. But the 34-year-old Ghanaian played in the Bundesliga only twice over 90 minutes, now it is only for amateurs to use. On Friday in the Ruhr derby at Borussia Dortmund will either hold the Pander-again or Schmitz that position.
