ROME, Jan. 19 - Pierluigi Collina is still the number one. In the last quarter of a century the best referee in the world was just the former Italian whistle, which in the recent ranking by the Institute of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) came in first place in the period between 1987 and 2011.The list was compiled on the basis of points awarded for each year to the best referees, and so down the world rankings is the period 1987-2011. Adding up all the points the first 24 years have revealed that Hill is right on the head of this special list and may not be exceeded. Behind him, the German Markus Merk.
