Just back from Switzerland where he received the Golden Ball, Lionel Messi was the great architect of the win by making a hat trick. Hailed by the public at Camp Nou before the match with his new trophy, which he submitted with his teammates Xavi and Iniesta, Argentina opened the scoring with a splendid flick, before stacking two other goals and to be imitated by Pedro and Keita.
