Most students travel by bus or bicycle to Bertolt Brecht School in Nuremberg. Some are also used in small cars, Ilkay Gundogan in the black sports car with leather seats. The car is striking, it is the largest in the school parking lot. The 20-year-old midfielder is the first Bundesliga FC Nuremberg and can therefore afford such a car.

He is one of the few soccer players in Germany, who also makes his graduation. His main courses are mathematics and sports, third and fourth examination subject is English and ethics. In mid-March, the first exam, on 6 May, he will get his testimony presented. On the night of the prom will take place.

My classmates see me as a man Ilkay Gundogan. Through the school I come out of the fairy tale life in football reality.

This I know much more appreciated, "says Gundogan, who has decided to play for Germany and not for Turkey. When he goes in the afternoon for training on the player parking lot and parked next to Audi Q7s and other luxury cars, his car suddenly is one of the smallest. Who is doing his A-levels and in parallel in the Bundesliga, plays up early.

Gundogan day begins at 7:15 clock, as his white cell phone vibrates and rings. He uses every day the alarm of the device. He gets up, makes himself in the bathroom ready for the day and stroll into the kitchen. For breakfast he eats a slice of bread with lean meat or other meats. "I'm not a big breakfast, early morning, I ate nothing.

But our support team told me how important it is not to go to school and then on to training on an empty stomach. So I force myself to eat at least a little. "Gundogan looks at the clock, it is 7.45 clock. The young rider grabs his school bag he always packed the night before and gets into his car.

Before starting, he turns on the radio and heard the news on the way to school: What is happening in the world? What's the latest from the competitors in the Bundesliga? At 7.55 clock Gundogan parked his car in the parking lot of the Bertolt-Brecht-school and goes to class. In the first two hours of math is on the agenda.

His colleague Dieter Hecking Nuremberg, himself a father of five children, thinks differently.

Central issues are training and teaching anatomy. "When I turned pro, I've thought about to leave school. I have asked myself: Why do I take this burden on me? But I have never regretted it later to have opted for the school.

Friends and family were always behind me. "The mother, meanwhile, has cooked and asks clock at 18.30 for dinner. The family sits together at the table and talking - not just about football.
