MADRID, March 17 - Ten of the Barcelona players were subjected to today by UEFA anti-doping controls by surprise, reports El Mundo online. The checks involved a few days by the controversy sparked on Monday by Madrid Cadena Cope radio, citing that Real Madrid had raised questions about possible illegal practices by Barcelona and Valencia.
Radio was sued by the club Barca and Real president Florentino Perez's, after a silence of 36 hours, he phoned his colleague Sergio Rosell saying Barca had nothing to do with the story. The Catalan press was still waged against what he considered a "new dirty maneuver" of Real Madrid to try to destabilize their Catalan rivals.
El Mundo reported that among the players tested today include Lionel Messi, Gerard Piqué, Andrés Iniesta, David Villa, Xavi Hernandez.
