The Barcelona defender Eric Abidal has been diagnosed with a liver tumor and will undergo surgery on Friday. The Catalan club made the announcement Tuesday afternoon and did not indicate how long it will be sidelined the French player of 31 years. The Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas sent a message of support for Abidal to your account on the Twitter social network.
"A lot of very strong support and Eric Abidal. Bad news for football," he wrote. The Real Madrid's Brazilian Kaka also wrote on Twitter: "What sad news about Eric Abidal, tumor in the liver! Let us all pray for him ... God bless you!" Abidal joined Barcelona at the beginning of the 2007-2008 season.
It was a crucial figure for Barca this year, participating in 33 games and recently to fill the gap left by the injured central defender Carles Puyol. Barcelona leads the Spanish league with five points ahead of its nearest rival, Real Madrid.
