Scotland: Celtic manager prevents bombing

Scottish postal workers have prevented a parcel bomb attack on the team manager and two prominent supporters of the 42-time football champion Celtic. A manager at Neil Lennon, and a package bomb addressed that should be sent to his lawyer Paul McBride, were intercepted. A bomb reaching the former Parliament Speaker Patricia Godman exploded, however.

The police suspected a sectarian background. The Catholic Lennon has often been attacked because of his religion, but not from the camp of the Catholic Celtic FC, but the Protestant dominated the camp of arch-rivals Rangers. 2002 Lennon had resigned as a player after receiving death threats from the Northern Ireland national team.

Even then there was speculation about religious backgrounds. "There is a large investigation" confirmed on Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Alex Salmond. "We do everything we can to identify and arrest those behind, they shall be punished with utmost severity." In the course of Wednesday there will be a press conference with more information.
