ROME, April 25 - Monday, May 2, at 15 (local, 16 in Italy), we play Sheffield Hallam FC-FC, the two teams battle between "older" of the world still in business and the meeting is held on the lawn of the Sandygate Road, the oldest football facility on the planet. This race was organized for December 26 in order to celebrate 150 years since their first derby, but the heavy snowfall that hit England forced the organizers to postpone the event.

THE MOTHER OF FOOTBALL - The Sheffield FC is the oldest club in the world still in operation. Founded October 24, 1857 he was awarded by FIFA title "Order of Merit. Sheffield has contributed to the evolution of football by introducing the cross of wood above the posts instead of the rope, the duration of the match 90 'and is among the first teams to have used the headers.

(For more see the topic "Sheffield Hallam, the first derby 150 years ago" by Biagio Angrisani published by the Corriere dello Sport-Stadio October 9, 2010). Sheffield FC now plays in the "NPL Division One South," amateur championship and eighth levels of the English football. It may seem strange, but in 153 years of this club has never had a stadium of ownership: the current president, Richard Tims, the club has made available the "Coach and Horses Ground (capacity 1,200 spectators).

Sandygate Road - the Hallam Fc (NCEL Premier Division, ninth grade), founded September 4, 1860 and the second oldest club in existence. The Hallam FC have the "Sandygate Road, opened in 1804 for cricket and December 26, 1860 home football match. The Sandygate Road, located in Crosspool, a suburb of Sheffield, is a kind of national monument and the fans see it as World Heritage.

At Sandygate Road were shot the film "When Saturday Comes" (1996) with Sean Bean and Emily Lloyd, directed by Maria Giese. The Sandygate Road can accommodate about 700 spectators of which 240 with chairs and covered grandstand. We are at the dawn of football, just think that the Genoa Cricket and Football Club, the oldest Italian football clubs, was founded in 1893.

THE LEGACY 'OF BELL - Roger Bell for twenty years has been a supporter dell'Hallam Fc and was present at home games and sometimes away. Bell died late last year and had no relatives in his will gave his possessions to the team. David Slater, President dell'Hallam Football Club, would not disclose the figure, but we are talking of many thousands of pounds plus some property to be capitalized: all should make a six-figure sum.

In the pub Crosspool, several pints of beer were raised to Roger Bell, football fan and loved by the community, while other members preferred to remember him with the "water of Scotland" in the Highlands. The Hallam is not the first time it receives a legacy. A decade ago another member left about 100 thousand pounds to the club.

With the money left by the generous Bell, the club decided to renew the Museum of the club and maybe even the grandstand of the stadium. The work is scheduled for next summer.
